India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.

Stopped here for lunch on our way back from Indiana Dunes. It was open for lunch buffet, but we opted not to take the buffet and decided to order from the menu. It is a quite a big space, clean and the service is quite friendly. We ordered the garlic naan, regular naan, tandoori roti, paneer masala, kadai chicken and dal tadka. All the dishes tasted good and fresh. They had distinctive flavors and did not taste generic as most restaurants tend to make them. All the entrees come with a side of basmati rice. And so there was plenty of food for our group of 5.

Looking for some tasty ethnic food while on vacation; I was pleasantly surprised to find India House in a stripmall. The food was as good or better than Devon Ave; with great, friendly service and reasonable prices. Whenever I'm in Michigan City, I will stop by.

Indian Gem in Michigan City We seldom write reviews -- this is our second one ever -- but my wife and I immediately looked at each other during our meal and said we should write a review. We love Indian food, and had gone to India House for our wedding anniversary meal. So we feel like we know our Indian food. Ever taste a watered down Indian dish? Not in India House. The food was creamy and tasty. The selection was more varied than most Indian buffets. There were the exceptional samosas, the best pakora we ever had, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken as well as a great assortment for vegetarians: Dal Makhni (lentils), saag paneer (spinach), channa masala (chick peas), punjabi bhaji (veggie fritters) and aloo gobi (cauliflower and potatoes). Also: fresh naan made to order, either plain or garlic, which is an offering unique to this buffet. The majority of patrons at India House were Indian, which is always a good sign. The food may be a little Americanized because the heat is toned down, but it has plenty of flavor. A bit less salty, and the food would have been perfect -- we were gulping water the rest of the day, but it was worth it. Please patronize this restaurant to keep it in business. Indian restaurants are so few in Northwest Indiana.

Staying in New Buffalo, but looking for ethnic food, we came upon this place for a lunchtime meal. As a vegetarian, the choices on the buffet were plentiful. The food was good and well seasoned. Not spicy at all, but typical buffet style foods are usually more mild in spice, so that was fine. As my date is a meat eater, those choices were limited. There was a nice offering if chicken tikka masala, but the curry chicken was just sauce and the tandoori chicken was just onion pieces... It was only around 1:00 when we went and the lunch buffet is open until 3:00, so the food should have been replenished. Water refills were frequent and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Only true complaint was the complete lack of toilet paper in the women's bathroom. (This issue was addressed immediately upon my notification to the staff.) Over all, a nice lunch experience.

I was on my way to detroit and stopped here. Ate chicken biryani. Not at all good. Avoid it if u are looking for biryani

Disclaimer: this was an old review from 2012, because the Yelp app never let you post, only draft reviews....have no idea what this restaurant is like now! The food was pretty good and the buffet had lots of vegetarian options. The naan was not quite like regular naan. Most importantly, all of the food on the buffet was room temperature. And when I explained to the server, he didn't seem to understand why it was a problem. To me this says they're not up to speed on food safety, which is usually a deal-breaker for me. I'll probably give in and come back for dinner, assuming that's served hot.

A welcome ethnic stand out in a sea of bland local dining spots. Dont be fooled by the mall location. Terrific tandoori, perfect paneer, and yummy garlic naan.
(4)Gagandeep K.
Horrible food, I am Indian myself and they way the food is served is so wrong!! It's sad that people don't know what they are eating when they get it. The only fresh and hot item you get is the naan, everything else is microwaved and it's still not hot when it comes to the table. We ordered the tandoori Chicken which should be made to ordered, but ours was not freshly made and was probably left overs that was heated up. And the papad they bring out at first were cold and old, anytime you get those they should be crunchy and warm. All and all this place is not the greatest place to go eat Indian food!!

We love to come here for the lunch buffet. Great deal and good food. Check out their website for a coupon. They have a small grocery store we love to shop, however we were informed that they do not get shipments in winter. As the stock was low I was asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I was looking for garlic ginger paste. They had none in the store, but he offered to package some up for me from the kitchen. I was elated! India House is very close to 94 and I recommend you stop by if you are driving through.

Excellent saag with just the right amount of spices in the vindaloo and chicken curry. Especially love tea served in China! Service is good and a relaxing atmosphere

I have seen several reviews here that fault this restaurant on service issues. It is true; service can be very slow. That said, the food is TERRIFIC. This is some of the best Indian food I've had, and I've lived in India AND in London (which has some of the best Indian restaurants in the world). Here are a couple of hints for those who complain about food quality at Indian restaurants: First, don't choose the buffet. You won't get the freshest food at the buffet. It may have been sitting out for hours. Second, ask your server to recommend dishes that have been made fresh that day. Most Indian restaurants have a very long menu; not every dish is made fresh every day. You might get warmed-over if you don't make it clear that you want the freshest dish. As for service: yes, it can be spotty at Indian restaurants. This is not a high-priced place; therefore, you can bet the help are not going to be as well-trained and efficient as you might be expecting. The evening we were in Michigan City, the restaurant was full of Indian customers. I mean FULL of Indian customers. Everyone was very patient. It took a long time for our food to arrive. No matter. We came expecting a leisurely meal, and enjoyed the chance for a long conversation before our meal. Another hint: order everything you want up front. A second order from your table will not arrive in a timely fashion. This means you have to think of what side dishes (raitha? dal? nan?) you want at the same time as you order your entree and beverage. For us, it was definitely worth the wait. What arrived was fresh, well-prepared and very well seasoned. I will eat at India House again the next time I am in Michigan City. If you're looking for a place with truly great food, and you're not in a big hurry, you will definitely enjoy India House, but DO ask your server for a recommendation (and stay away from the buffet).

I came here with an expired groupon but wished i'd never bought it when i saw yelp had the same deal all the time! How is this place 4.5 stars? Granted this is Michigan city's only Indian restaurant and there is not much competition of any other sort this is till a 3 at best. The strip mall location it's in used to be a Chinese buffet. You can still see signs of the older place by noticing the pandas and bamboo carved into the glass dividers. Food: Chicken Makhani (butter chicken) - 1/5 This dish is a favorite of mine. I get it at every Indian restaurant i go to so i know there was something funky in this rendition. I think my dish came out of a can, the tomato sauce had a old preservative taste and the chicken was cut into identical slices. Simply put it lacked the flavor the dish is known for. Worst chicken Makhani I've had. Lamb Tandoori - 4/5 The lamb was tender and fatty. Perfect meat texture. Sauce was fresh and flavorful. This dish saved our meal. Garlic Naan - 2/5 I'm used to Naan that's crispy and puffed up, having come recently out of the oven. THis one was flat and pasty. Again i think this dish came out of a box and finished off with some oil and heat. Seeing as there is a ethnic food store right in the restaurant only strengthens my impression that only one of our dishes was cooked from scratch. If you've ever been on Divan street in Chicago India house will be a real disappointment.

The atmosphere is comparable to any large Chinese buffet restaurant. The food, excellent Indian food. I had the lamb curry and a very spicy chicken dish. Very large menu. Great selections. There is lunch buffet. The service, not good. I was sat and the waiter brought water. I asked for a Mr. Pibb, which was on the menu, and he replied "I will ask." then I see him wandering around for next 10 min. He comes back and I says I order the soda and am ready to order. He said "wait sir" and hurried off. 12 min later a lady approached and said "we do not have mr pibb" so I ordered something else. My food came out 20 min later. I asked the waiter for raita (yogurt sauce) he said "you must order it separately" so I said that is fine I will order some. I sat waiting to eat my food until the yogurt sauce came. On problem, it never came. I asked again for the sauce but no got no response from him. I just started eating without it as I watched the waiter wondering around, walking to look out the door, carry glasses, doing everything but serving me. Atmosphere is nothing special. Service needs serious improvement and the food is very good. I am giving 4 stars because of the food, maybe 2 stars for service.
(4)Jeffrey J.
Well worn but clean. Friendly service. I had Butter Chicken and Navrattan Korma. Wonderful creamy sauce for the Butter chicken but I think it could be a little sweeter. Good though Nav korma is very nutty and yummy. Definitely recommended.

We were visiting on a cross country trek and are regular Indian food eaters. The price is extremely high for takeout, roughly double what we pay in an upscale area near Cambridge, MA (a high rent area). We ordered a standby: Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan and a ginger garlic chick pea curry. The food was OK, but medium spice didn't mean much. The food was very mild and very bland. It also seems that because the place isn't very busy, that the food is hastily assembled and it shows in the blandness of the food. Service was prompt and reasonably prompt which brought it up a star.

I owe a review for this restaurant. Even though I have not eaten here lately, the food still warrants a review. When you visit Michigan City, and if you choose not to eat at a chain, there are not a tremendous number of choices. When looking for something different, we found this Indian restaurant located in the back corner of a nondescript, dilapidated strip mall. We had low expectations but were pleasantly surprised by the food. The menu is extensive, the spices just right, and the flavor was as good as we have found on Devon Ave. in Chicago. We were extremely pleased with our meal. While the service could have been slightly better, the food, and the inexpensive prices, more than made up for the shortcomings. Highly recommend this restaurant if you like Indian cuisine.

When a restaurant of this size is totally empty: Just. Don't. Do. It. Terrible food.

This might be one of the best Indian restaurants I've even been to. My party and I were hungry after visiting the outlet mall, so were looked up a venue on Yelp, and decided on Indian House after seeing a Yelp deal where you can pay $10 for $20 worth of food. I wanted to make sure that the restaurant was open before purchasing the deal, so once we arrived at the restaurant, I asked the waiter about the deal, and he said that I didn't even have to purchase the deal online. He said that he would take the $10 off the bill at the end. I was pleasantly surprised at this gracious offer, and thanked the waiter. We ordered the Aloo Gobi, which consists of cauliflower and potatoes cooked with Indian herbs. We also ordered the Spinach Naan, which is white flour bread with spinach, and the Kadai Lamb, which is a boneless lamb tossed with fresh julienne-style tomato, green pepper, onion, herbs and spices. The dishes were packed full of flavor, and were delicious. We requested the medium spiciness, and this was a bit spicier than I preferred, but the dishes were still yummy. The price was a steal for the amount of food we got, and the service was great. If I'm ever in the area again, I definitely plan on going back.

The lunch buffet is pretty good. Flavors are a bit muted, but that's to be expected when trying to please the masses. I love the fact that the naan is made to order - always hot and fresh! I've been in twice and both times have been consistently good. I've never been in for dinner, but I was told by my waiter that that was when the spices are kicked up a notch. Overall, I'd recommend India House when you're in MC and not in the mood for the same old, same old.
(3)Ryan H.
Amazing food! Even if you're not in to Indian cuisine, please check them out! I promise that you'll love the flavors. Also, the staff is quite friendly and be sure to check out how clean their silverware is.

Because my husband and I will be moving to Virginia soon, we thought it was time to use had an expired Groupon for this restaurant that's along our usual Chicago-Detroit route when we were last visiting friends and family. Besides the fact that it was conveniently located and that it had an online deal, I wasn't too impressed. Interesting interior - I don't mind dives, but this spot had a bit of an unusual mix. -The restaurant itself is set within a somewhat deserted strip mall with a bajillion pot holes in the parking lot. -Walking into the foyer, I noticed wall paper accents with the words espresso and cafe, making it seem like it used to be an Italian restaurant. However, when at the cash register, my husband noticed the pandas and bamboo etched into mirrors and glass dividers. Then, when sitting in our booth, I looked above us at a wooden type of awning that reminded me of a Spanish tapas place I visited when on their patio. -The floor underneath the table had some debris and the duct tape held up our table number on the wall. Satisfactory service - Consistent and friendly +I was telling my husband how cold I was coming from outside when the server overheard and quickly turned up the heat. (When we entered, there were no other customers yet for the dinner rush.) I appreciated that gesture. Final thoughts with our food - In the end, this is what matters most... -Garlic Naan: Most definitely not my fav of all that I've had. Didn't smell or taste the garlic as much as I would like. (I like it strong and pungent.) The texture was thin, dry and hard, pita-chip like, instead of crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside like I always prefer so that I can use it to wipe up any extra sauce from the entrees. -Butter Chicken: Also not my fav of all that I've tried in the past. (Trust me, I've had a lot because the hubby is obsessed.) The sauce was creamy yet still had the acidity of the tomato, but it didn't have the garnishes of cashews and raisins as the menu description included. +/-Lamb Tandoori: Best item we ate because the usually tough meat was tender and soaked up the savory sauce. However, it lacked any kind of kick that I expected. (I asked for this to be "hot" because the menu warns that "spicy" doesn't mean "chili hot" and that if a customer wants a dish done this way, we need to notify the server.)

Stopped by on the way back from a Chicago trip. It was pretty good.

I really want to give it 3 stars... this place is A-OK. However, it's the only one in the area and they just opened up a little market of dry goods (so they get another star). The staff is nice, friendly, and helpful. Food is decent... I think the food needs more seasoning and more heat.... Naan is good and my favorite Palak Paneer is meh. The market is great though! Mostly because it's the only place like in within 50 miles....but I do like that they have huge bags of rice and seasonings I can't find anywhere else. The first time I went in to the market, a staff member took me around like a personal shopper helping me find everything on my list and explaining things I didn't know. Buffet is a very good price and you can find a printable coupon on their website.

I had the buffet on the weekend. Really well done. I felt I got my money's worth and more.

The other reviewers here are spot on. Michigan City has enough fast food joints and chain eateries to tire even the biggest mall rat. The addition of India House is a welcome change from that scene and delivers big flavor and great service. Vestiges of restaurants past greet you at the door. Don't be afraid! There is great cuisine past the old coffeehouse wallpaper at the entrance, and glass koi/dragon dividers. They run an affordable lunch buffet, but we were here for dinner, which had an extensive menu full of appetizers, lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes, briyani (think Indian fried rice), and in a few days when their liquor license comes through, beer and wine. Some of the dishes came out differently than I expected-- the saag paneer was creamier looking than I've had before, and the chicken vindaloo had a darker red color than the light orange color I know from previous dinners. The taste, however, could stand up to a Devon Ave Chicago Indian restaurant. The sauces were spicy and the meat was fork tender. The rice did not come in fluffy separated grains, but again, taste was excellent. The garlic naan was a stand-out for me because they didn't skimp on garlic and salt like others places do, and it was appropriately crispy on one side and soft on the other. It all came out lighting fast too! We had a samosa appetizer, two entrees (that come with rice), briyani, and a side of naan for $40. We will definitely be back!
(4)Al Z.
As a recent convert to Indian cuisine take my opinion with trepidation for the experienced or enthusiasm for those who've been missing out. Built within an old Chinese buffet, India House style fits in comfortably into the old floor plan (with some East Asian motifs still filtering in) with a decent buffet and absurdly large dining area. First experience was with the very affordable buffet. Selection was more than adequete and a never ending supply on complimentary Nan made it all the better. It is a buffet so adjust you expectations accordingly. However, arriving for a made fresh dinner is a whole different ball game. Ordered the Kadai Chicken dinner; which was phenomenal. Not much else to stay but check this place out.

I literally JUST left this restaurant and couldn't wait to write a review. Our host and waiter was very accomodating. I think he may have been the owner, but unsure. The menu is very descriptive and the waiter was more than happy to answer any questions we had. If you've never eaten Indian food, I suggest you try it here. It is just as good as the places I've tried in Chicago. We needed more naan and the waiter asked if we would like for him to surprise us with a special naan. We agreed and so glad we did! The bread (naan) had bits of almonds and garlic in it and was even better than the garlic naan we originally ordered. They all were so hospitable. My boyfriend and I walked in close to closing and they treated us like family. Overall, I will definitely be back soon! Maybe even for their lunch buffet!
(5)Tab B.
Stopped by India House passing thru as I was going to Chicago. They are located in a strip mall on an inside corner. The good: The place looked very nice and the food presentation of the buffet was good. I was so looking forward to trying it after driving all morning. I was ready for a sumptuous lunch. They had about 10 different items including pakoras and vege samosas, tandoori chicken and various stewy dishes both vegetarian and with meat. I noticed lamb meatballs too. The bad: Too much seasoning!!! Too salty for my taste. Because of the saltiness everything tasted the same. Reminds me of a Thai restaurant I went to in Detroit where every dish served was salty. Indian (or Thai) food is suppose to utilize the use of various spices to bring out the flavor of their food. But when they are salted too much all you taste is salt. In addition, I found the palak paneer (one of my favorites) too creamy which became harder to eat. The lamb meat balls did not taste like lamb at all. Lamb has a distinct taste. It is such a shame. The place is nice and the service was good. I would have given them 5 stars but there is no excuse for salty food. I would go back there if I am in the area but not until they do what is right.
(1)Melanie H.
Have only been for dinner twice so can't speak to the buffet. But LOVE that there is finally somewhere to get Indian when I'm home in Indiana from Chicago. It's not on par quality wise with the city, but great to have the option. It's hard to find for people that don't know it's there, but well worth it!
(4)Dave S.
I am not a fan of Indian food to begin with. I can't hold this against them though. This restaurant was tucked away in the back of a strip mall so unless you know it is there you will miss it. It is not an ideal location. The restaurant itself is clean and well-kept. Dirty buffets are one of my pet peeves and they did a good job of keeping it neat and clean. We went on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was only about 1/2 full at its peak during our visit. I don't know if they were expecting a larger crowd but they were putting a large amount of food on the buffet. It appeared thay they could have cut their batches by 1/2 and still had a good amount of food on the buffet. Maybe this would have not let what was out there look old (which some of it did. The staff here was all very friendly. Although I am not the biggest fan of the cuisine, I would come back with my wife if she was craving it.
(3)Alex M.
The people who say that the best ethnic food these days is in strip malls were right! We found India House Restaurant on our way back to Chicago from Holland, MI. And I don't know about you, but after a weekend of the fine fare at the xmas parties of Holland, MI, we sure needed a refreshing change, and India House Restaurant fit the bill: we had spicy, diverse food that satisfied meat-eaters and a vegetarian. The buffet was fresh and well-stocked. I tried several preparations of chicken (ticka masala, tandori, and one in a chick-pea curry), as well as lamb (the meatballs were particularly good). Looking around the restaurant it occurred to us that India House Restaurant had taken over a Chinese buffet, painted a wall orange, and called it a day. I spoke with our server and it turns out that this is exactly what had gone down. They'd been in Michigan City for just over a year. Again: the food is excellent. Totally worth a trip if you are on the road, and if you live nearby try the non-buffet menu (which we didn't try).
(4)Katie D.
Going to an Indian restaurant is not the same as having home made indian food. On our way back home (Chicago) from Warren Dunes we looked up at this restaurant with good ratings on yelp. We decided to give it a short after a long tiring day, service was not the best since there was only one person taking care of 5-6 tables. The food was as good as it gets, not oil dripping typical indian food, just felt like a home cooked meal. They catered us to our spice level and the roti's and naans were absolutely amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant. Totally worth for the price
(5)Adam W.
This place is legit. Really solid Indian food in a most unlikely place. And the staff is super friendly. So happy I found this place.
(4)B M.
I've been here numerous times for lunch and it is a great way to experience Indian food if you are new to the cuisine. BUT we went or dinner tonight and I don't know what the heck happened. Service was dreadful and we were the only customers! My husband really like his chicken with vegetables. My soup was obviously made from lunch buffet leftovers. Super dry chicken and an absolute flavorless broth. Plus I asked for it to be medium spicy and it was just bland. I would have told our waiter that it was bland but he never came back to check on us. I will probably go back for the lunch buffet but I'll never set foot in there for dinner again.
(2)D W.
The location is tucked in a corner out of sight in a shopping center on a busy street which is covered with chain restaurants. Inside the place seemed to be quite huge (with the help of the mirrors). But it was quite pleasant, very clean, and inviting. We sat next to a window (nothing to look out at), but it was a nice table. I thought the waitress was quite friendly and helpful, and rather easy going. Food selections on the menu were huge. We had several appetizers including samosas, shrimp, and potato pancakes. Entrees included tika chicken from the tandoori, and a curry lamb dish. Though the chicken was a little dry it was still flavorful. The lamb was very good. Though we prefer wine, and they only had beer, I actually did enjoy the beer from India. Nice to have something good, ethnic, and authentic in this part of the world. I liked the place, and will go back.
(5)Brian B.
This place is seriously the best indian buffet I've ever been to (and I've been to A LOT of Indian restaurants all around the country). Service is good. Selection is awesome (I think they have 3 buffet tables full of great stuff). You seriously can't go wrong here.
(5)Amanda C.
India House appears to be in a slightly renovated space that used to be a Chinese buffet. Despite the strange decor, our dining experience was great. Service was very prompt, and we enjoyed delicious Indian food. I especially liked the naan here. It's a bit crispier than other Indian restaurants. As far as entrees, I usually order vegetarian at Indian restaurants, because I find the meats are often overcooked. But not so at India House. I gave their extensive lamb menu a chance and was delighted with perfectly cooked meat. And you can't beat the price. We splurged and ordered lots of food for under $40.
(4)Adam K.
Lamb vindaloo very good. We ordered it spicy and it was. Fish Marsala a little fishy for me. Naan was really good as was freshly made mango pudding. Great service too
(4)Jesse T.
We have Taj in Chesterton, and it's pretty good. They have a buffet, but it's only during the lunch time on weekends. The selection there on the buffet is a bit limited. THIS PLACE, though...I really enjoy the flavors in everything, and you have a lot of vegetarian choices as well. I've been to only one other Indian buffet, and that was in Kitchener, Ontario, and I don't really want to talk about it. We might hit this place for lunch once per month, since it's in the town we work. Two kinds of rice, the one with spices and veggies (is that saffron?) and plain rice. They have a crackery naan, a regular naan, and a fried naan. They have something that looks like Saag Paneer and a chickpea dish that reminds me of chole masala. I like mixing these two together with rice and the flavor is AMAZING. Good chicken dishes as well, and the green chutney is awesome. Solid service, and I always get my money's worth at $8.95.

I normally don't write reviews but this restaurant was amazing. I'm from Chicago and was visiting my father who lives in Michigan City. I always end up eating burgers and fast food when I visit. I tend to be picky about my ethnic food when I'm out of the city because most of it tends to be bland comparatively. My father told me that a new Indian restaurant had opened recently. We decided to stop by with a few friends to try it out. It was amazing. I've eaten a lot of Indian food in Chicago but this place is one of the best I've ever been to. One of the big issues with a lot of Indian restaurants is how long you need to wait for you food, but our first dish came up shockingly quick. I was very skeptical at first but as soon as the first dish hit the table I knew I was in for a treat. We ordered the Vegetable Samosa, Naan, Aloo Gobi, Lamb Vindaloo, Lamb Curry and the Boti Kabob Masala. Each dish was incredible but the Lamb Vindaloo was to die for. The spices were perfect and the lamb was so delectably tender. They also have a fantastic vegetarian selection and even though I'm a meat eater I could eat this vegetarian food every day. Everyone who eats food in Michigan City, IN needs to try this place, there is no other like it! (And besides, you can only eat Steak n Shake so much!)
(5)J K.
Love this place!!!!!! It has a strange location but I'm sure glad I checked it out. The food was fresh, hot, and super good! The staff was attentive and the place was clean...really an awesome place to go any night. It is so hard for ethnic places to survive and thrive in Michigan City...but lets make this place last because its amazing...and I eat Indian all the time...it's a real gem.
(5)Emily W.
I love this place! The food is amazing, I defiantly recommend their lamb vindaloo. They are great about making the food to the spiciness level you request. I also am very happy with the staff. They are very nice and always remember regulars.
(5)Fernando T.
Decent Indian food.. Atmosphere is dull service was awful
(1)Jennifer L.
This place is awesome! Buffet is good, not as spicy as I like, bit still delicious. Dinner is spectacular! Just let them know how spicy you want it. Fresh, hot, and plentiful."

Kudos to India House for staying strong in the region despite such a lackluster palate from Hoosiers. My girlfriend and I splurged for around $40. Such a good deal when I compare prices from Chicago to M.C. I had the lamb vindaloo which was good, but wasn't as good as places in the city. Much too sweet. However, my girlfriend had a curry that I enjoyed much more than my vindaloo. We also had some garlic naan with riata that was enjoyable. Once again, not as good as the city but terrific for the region. Will be back again and again. Also, extremely happy they serve beer.

I have not eaten there nor can I. As much as I wanted to I discovered that there is MSG in their food. I was assured that it is not added on the premises but that it comes in the food and/or sauces that are bought in. Very disappointing..

Some Indian restaurants make their food fiery hot even if you request mild. India House actually made delicious food that was mild. Service was fast and pleasant and the prices reasonable. I will definitely be returning when I am in the area.

Solid Indian joint with above average offerings at the buffet. It is much cleaner and more friendly than Indian restaurants I've been to in South Bend. It is on par with Chicago Indian buffets. They kept a good rotation on the items in the buffet and had a bigger selection than most restaurants you'll find in smaller towns. I hope they continue to server up great, fresh Indian food in a clean and friendly environment. I'll be back...

Friendly, terrific service. Excellent chicken tikka masala and saag paneer. Very close off the highway, we stopped on the way back to Chicago from Grand Rapids.

Yay for an Indian restaurant in Michigan City/La Porte County! We'll take it! Whoever included the Taj (Chesterton) in their review--it's g-o-h-n gone. Too bad, the food was fantastic. India House? Great choices, all the good, familiar favorites, very quick service for take-away and nice people My only criticism? SALTY--not in price, but in spice.Beggars can't be choosers I suppose. They could leave the salt out and it would be really delicious.

Really good. We asked for spicy, hot and it was perfect. Lots of flavor. Will definite return when in town.

Tucked in the back corner of a strip mall that used to be anchored by Wal-Mart, but is now the home of Big "R", is a large space that housed a succession of Chinese Buffet restaurants. India House is a relatively new addition to the Michigan City cuisine, and is excellent. We first tried the buffet for lunch (no buffet for dinner) to see how authentic and tasty the basics were.... We were happy to discover that this is the real thing. We came back a week or so later for dinner and tried the Paneer Pakora appetizer which was a deliciously mild battered cheese finger food that was only $3. We had a remarkable chicken curry dish (ordered India Hot), lamb Madrasi (a spicy, incredibly delicious dish), and chicken Tikka Masala that had a great tomato cream sauce as good as anywhere we have had Indian food (and that includes London, UK). We had the tandoori Roti, a whole wheat naan with a spicy sauce and a delicious mango chutney. This is a rare jewel of a restaurant in an area not known for its culinary excellence.

The food was delicious, and at a great price! I would definitely recommend going there if you're in the area. The restaurant is spacious and welcoming, with large mirrors that expand the space and colorful lights for a fun ambiance.

I've been coming here since they opened just over a year ago. No matter if it's the huge buffet or dinner - the food is AMAZING! I'm never disappointed. The buffet is a great way to experience a wide variety of foods. Their Chili Chicken was new to me, but is a favorite. Chicken Tika Masala is excellent as are the Navrattan Shahi Korma, veggie balls and the Galub Jaman is not to be missed. Enjoy! Prices are fair (buffet $8.99 ea) and service is very attentive.

My partner and I have dubbed northwest Indiana the land of the most mediocre food on the planet. Seriously, it's pretty bleak out here. The opening of this new Indian restaurant is a bright spot in the dark (other bright spots: Sahara in Michigan City, Don Quijote in Valparaiso, Aladdin Pita in Merrillville, and Five Star Thai in Crown Point). So far, we've tried the chai, chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, papadum, mint chutney, pakora (cauliflower, mixed veg, paneer), tikka masala salad, vegetarian samosas, gulab jamun, mango pudding, kheer, garlic naan, plain naan, and sweet naan with raisins and coconut. The sauces are rich, creamy and full of flavor and they'll make them as spicy (or not) as you'd like. The chicken in both the korma and tikka masala is all white meat, which is aligned with my personal preference. The portions are sized right with enough to take home for leftovers. The service is attentive and we've never visited without receiving some sort of upgrade or complimentary item from the quirky and funny server (who I think may actually be an owner). My only critique would be that the kheer could use a bit more flavor--a few cardamom pods, dash of rose water, and a few almond slivers and it would be perfect. It's so nice to finally have Indian food in northwest Indiana that is consistently delicious and high quality. Don't let its tucked-away-in-a-desolate-strip-mall location dissuade you from trying it. They are open seven days a week for buffet ($8.95/person--DELICIOUS!) from 11-3 and their dinner service runs from 5-10pm every day as well.
